Program Info
Every year, GSC hosts young people for several days of learning about engineering and design on the latest technology. While kids come for hands-on experience on the latest tech, they also get to learn from some great people and each other as they make friends over pizza, tacos, and subs. Coming as I do from a teaching background, it’s one of the things I look forward to the most each year.
We’re always trying to improve our programs by using what we’ve learned during previous sessions to help us make programs better. To that end, we now have 2 CAMP 3D! Experiences, each tuned to a different age group.
Middle School Program
The first is CAMP 3D! for Middle School. This 2-day session will give kids hands-on time with SOLIDWORKS, the world’s supreme 3D CAD tool. Students will learn to make part models in SOLIDWORKS and be able to print them on a 3D printer so they can take home their designs! They’ll also be exposed to subdivision modeling through the use of SOLIDWORKS Apps for Kids, which is a tool they’ll be able to use at home after the camp as well.
Along the way, there will be a couple of STEAM activities to keep everyone moving and learning. This camp is for students who have completed 6th, 7th, or 8th grade.
High School Program
The second is CAMP 3D! for High School. This 4-day session will take students through a SOLIDWORKS CAD training program very similar to our SOLIDWORKS Essentials class. It will be hands-on all week as students learn how to create parametric solid part models, assembly models, and drawings. At the end, students will have to opportunity to take a practice Certified SOLIDWORKS Associates test and go over the results with the instructor.
Students will also learn about 3D printing and bring home a part they designed, and maybe a guest speaker or two will show up. This camp is for students who have completed 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th grade.
