National Engineer Week Spotlight – Evan Hicks

Evan is a Technical Support Engineer at GSC, a position he earned after starting as a part-time Technical Support Intern in 2017. He graduated in 2020 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and is now an integral part of the team at GSC.

His passion for engineering and helping customers is what drives him every day. He loves the challenges of his job and the diversity of projects he works on daily. Problem-solving and identifying solutions to customers’ problems are rewarding to him.

In high school, Evan was exposed to the engineering world when he took a CAD design and 3D printing class. This experience gave him a glimpse into the world of engineering. He said, “This sparked my interest in engineering, and I went on to pursue a career in Mechanical Engineering.”

Evan is not only passionate about his job but also values the work environment and his team members. He emphasizes, “I love working with a team that always has each other’s backs and knows how to laugh and have fun while working hard.”

What inspires Evan beyond work?

We sat down with Evan to learn more about his personal interests, and here’s what he had to say:

If you could swap lives with anyone in the world for 24 hours, who would it be and why?

An executive from a major tech company like Apple or Google. I’ve always thought it would be interesting to see their day-to-day job.

What technology innovation made the most impact on your life?

The smartphone. I feel privileged to be just old enough to know what life was like before it was a common staple in everyday life and see how it will continue to develop in years to come.

If you could travel back to any decade, which one would you pick and why?

1960s – I’d want to experience America watch man walk on the moon for the first time.

Evan’s all-time favorites:

Movie: The Martian
Book: Imagineering Story
TV Show: Parks and Rec
Board Game: Scategories
Candy: Nerds Rope
Band/Musical Artist: Thomas Rhett
Color: Blue
Animal: Monkeys
Professional Sports Team: Packers
